Research and publications

Source-critical study of Turkish and Ottoman culinary heritage: documented, cited and open to correction.

The Academy holds to a single standard. Primary sources are preferred where accessible, each significant claim is tied to its source, and every record can be corrected. When a primary source has not been examined directly, the intermediary published source and the resulting limit of verification are disclosed.

Method

  • Primary over secondary, with the route disclosed. Archival documents and period records take precedence over later retellings. Where a claim reaches the Academy through a published intermediary rather than the archive itself, that intermediary is named and the limit of verification is stated.
  • Page-referenced citation. Claims are cited to specific pages so that a reader can verify them.
  • Stated limits. Where a source is weak, contested or missing, that is written into the text. A gap recorded is worth more than a gap filled by inference.
  • Numbered publication. Each report carries a file number, a report number and a publication date, so that it can be cited exactly and distinguished from later versions.
